A tie game at my son’s baseball game

A tie game at my son’s baseball game produced the following results:

Dads:  I can’t believe this game ended in a tie!

Moms:  Thank goodness we tied the game!

Is there a message here?

Are the parents there to support the team or their kid? As a volunteer head coach, I have to manage some of the behaviors of the parents, that’s right, the parents. The kids focus on their play, team play, sportsmanship, and having fun. The parents on the other hand, are most concerned with whether or not it will be a winning season and who is in last place. It has gotten so bad that my wife no longer sits in the stands to listen to the remarks from the immature parents.

The message behind the message is that the parents should stop and take a lesson from their child on what is most important: that the parent took time out of their life to come and support THEM. Parents, lets make it a mission to focus on what is most important.

  2. I hear you! I’ve been coaching youth baseball for almost 15 years and I’ve had my share of inappropriate parental behavior. In fact I can probably think of only 1 or 2 occasions where the child’s behavior was an issue, whereas I can recall dozens of “fun” parent stories.
